Slithery Snakes and my Little Girl???

Well, today was the first of the much anticipated zoo babies classes. I was so excited to hear all about it that I made my first obnoxious mom call to get an early update on the day. The theme was slithery snakes, and Sarah Katherine had a great time! I thought she would really get a kick out of this because she LOVES our dogs - just giggles and giggles at anything they do. So, she got to meet a snake, a lizard, and a turtle - she even got a certificate of completion of her class! Hopefully she doesn't have any lasting connections and wants to keep one of those as a pet one day becuase mommy and daddy don't share the affinity for any slithery things - yuck! Next month is black and white animals and we've been told a skunk and a rat will make an appearance - so much fun for such a little girl!

Since little miss is not quite steady sitting up, the lion helped out - very handy!

This is when they had to pry her hands off the snake because she probably wanted to put it in her mouth. :)

6 Month Check Up

I took little miss for her 6 month well baby visit today, and you know what that means - more mean, terrible shots! She did pretty well, but I did see her hold her breath and turn purple for the first time - one of my old tricks, I guess she is taking after her mom. Besides the bad shots, we did get her stats. She's still tracking to be a tall girl, now if only we could get her hair to grow in! :)

Tomorrow is her first "class" at the zoo, so I'll be getting pic's from that and posting ASAP! I bet she's going to put on quite a show seeing the animals. :)

Happy St. Patty's Day

Well, little bit has had her very first St. Patrick's Day. No green beer for her just yet, but we did have to get her all dressed for the occasion. I had to be sure no one pinched my baby!

The Big Apple

David had a class in New Jersey for work last week, so we took the opportunity to take a quick getaway together. I met him up there Thursday night and we flew back on Sunday night. It was so wonderful to have some time just the two of us. Ever since we had Sarah Katherine we have only gone to lunch twice just us. We were really good and only called to check in once a day -thanks lots to Nanna and Grandpa for keeping our little one!

We got to see all different parts of the city and even bought a "City Pass" that will get you in to all sorts of things - I totally recommend that, we would have spent at least $100 more per person if we had paid at each place versus the one fee pass. We saw the top of Rockafellar Center, Radio City Music Hall, Madam Teussau's Wax Museum, top of the Empire State Building, a 4-D movie that was like a helicopter ride over NYC, the Guggenheim Museum. We also got to see Mary Poppins on broadway, which was really good! On Sunday we went to church at the Brooklyn Tabernacle - such an awesome experience. They even sang one of my favorite songs we sing in our church choir. I totally sang along and pretended I was a member of the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir. :) After we got out of church we went back to the city for some shopping. I - of course - left with purses, beautiful knock off purses!

While we were up there we even got to see a college friend of mine and her hubby that live just outside the city - it was so GREAT to see them! They came with us to the Guggenheim to see all the "art" - that is if you call a 5 hour video of someone sleeping, a wall of beer bottles, and a spot on the wall they ripped out the sheet rock art (very out there!!!). Thanks for trekking into the city to visit, Katy!!

Crazy Alabama Comment

I just noticed that my last two posts are one week apart and we go from snow and freezing temperatures to a beautiful day wearing a sleeveless dress in the sun shine. Only in Alabama!

6 Months Today

Well, I have officially hit the point when time FLIES by and I'm pretty sure I'm in some sort of time warp. :) My little one is six months old today. This is such a great age, I'm really pretty sad to see her getting older than this. Sarah Katherine is seriously interacting with others - smiling, laughing, "talking", making faces, hugging, and on and on. She is not mobile yet, so we are able to enjoy all of these things without chasing her around worrying she's going to eat something horrible off the floor (I know, I'll probably stop worrying about that about 2 months after she starts crawling).

We got to enjoy our little ham this weekend when we went on a couple of outings. First, on Friday night we went with some friends to a place called Fire and Ice (http://www.fire-ice.com/). We had a great time and the atmosphere was super fun. Sarah Katherine had just about everyone she saw oohing and ahhing at her. The cooks were chatting with her, the waitresses squeezed on her, random people we stood next to had her giggling - she was seriously showing off! We'll say she gets this from her daddy. :)

Then, on Saturday we went to a wedding in Montgomery of some friends of ours. Their wedding started right when she's supposed to be going down for her nap. So, I was seriously worried she'd have some horrible fit right in the middle of the ceremony (picturing a speak now or forever hold your peace moment). Boy was I wrong though, again since Sarah Katherine had a built in audience she was just hamming it up all over the place. Maybe this theme of being all cute when she sees other people will keep up and I'll just have a stream of visitors come over when she hits 2! Below are some pictures from the wedding.

Another big milestone will be reached this weekend - I am leaving my little one for the first time. David and I are going on a long weekend trip to New York and Sarah Katherine will be staying with Nanna and Grandpa (David's parents). I know she will be well taken care of and will have a great time, but I am starting to get all sentimental about this - I never thought I would be a mom that would be all sad about going off with my hubby for the weekend. I guess since it is the first time I'm allowed a bit of sentiment! :)

SNOW!!!!!

Like every other mom in Birmingham this morning, we got up, saw it was snowing, got the kiddo up and bundled, then went outside to take pictures in the snow. Forget that she has a cold already and that it is damp and cold out - we MUST get pictures of her in her first snow!!! Sarah Katherine was less than impressed with the whole thing, but she was a sport for us to take her out in the less than fabulous conditions.

After we came in she was super excited to be back in the warm. Here she is very happy to be watching her bear mobile.

A Little Day in the Life of...

Here's a little picture into the day in the life of little bit. She is starting to get stronger, so we are able to do some more fun stuff now! Here she is in her jumperoo that Santa brought her. She is still WAY smaller than the seat, but at least we don't have to pack in a blanket with her to keep her from falling through the let holes. :) She really enjoys all the colorful excitement on every side and is really digging jumping up and down. Even when we hold her now she kicks constantly like she was in the jumper. She's building up her muscles, but I think we have a little way to go before crawling (hopefully she won't prove me wrong and get to moving tomorrow!). We have a ways to go before we are any kind of baby proofed around here.

Sarah Katherine is "talking" non stop now though. I am working constantly to get her to say "mamma", but she just laughs at me like - yeah right, mom. No words that we can really distinguish as actual words, but she especially love squealing at the dogs. Even if Sarah Katherine is fussing, seeing her girls really picks her up. I can't wait to see her when she can get down in the mix with them and really pull their ears and tails.

We are having our first brush with "the crud" though. Sarah Katherine has been congested, couging, and sneezing for close to a week now. We have now invested in some sort of exciting vaporizer, so we'll see if we can avoid the $25 copay to just say it just has to run its course. I guess if this is all she's gotten so far we can count ourselves blessed! It's not effecting her sleep at night, so she's not too bad off.
