Well, it has been a crazy few weeks! On early Thursday morning (April 5) I woke up hemmoraging. I knew I had a full placenta previa, so needless to say I was freaking out! There was just so much blood I couldn't see how Charlotte Anne could possibly be ok. David called 911 and in what seemed like no time the paramedics were checking my vitals and getting me loaded on the ambulance. I just prayed and prayed the whole time, I knew getting too worked up would just affect my blood pressure and that is nothing but bad for Charlotte Anne. On our way to St. Vincent's the paramedic had his hand on the same spot I did and we felt her kick! So I knew we at least had some time to work with. We made it up to St. Vincent's Labor and Delivery floor and they got the ultrasound machine in and we finally saw the flutter of her little heart. I completely lost it then knowing she was ok. Hallelujah - God protected my baby girl!!! They finally determined nothing at all was "wrong" inside the uterine wall and whatever happened was just due to something with me - likely a blood vessel burst. I didn't need a transfusion, Charlotte Anne was perfectly content, all was ok!
With this event combined with the history of Elizabeth Anne getting tangled in her umbilical cord, my doctor said I was staying put until we left with a baby. The day I came in I was 1 day away from 33 weeks. I got steroid shots for her little lungs because if we had another bleeding event they were going to get her here quickly, but the ideal situation would be to keep her where she was for a few more weeks. So, two weeks later I have been in my little nook of St. Vincent's with no new excitement and a little girl who is on the monitor whenever I want her to be! While it's not the ideal way to get here, but it has been such a comfort to know she's ok and if anything happens we are just feet away from being able to get things taken care of quickly. It makes a momma sleep well when her baby's heartbeat is in the background all night.
Through all of this, we have been abundantly blessed with amazing friends that have gone far above and beyond to take care of Sarah Katherine, our dogs, our home, and ANYTHING you can think of. It is such a humbling blessing to see all these people coming together to truly be the body of Christ and support us in a time when we are unable to take care of it ourselves. I think God is still teaching this type - A that is is ok to ask and accept help. One day I will get that through my thick skull! (Really God - no more lessons needed, I promise!)
Now as I sit here, I know tomorrow at this time we will have a little girl here. We are just praying her little lungs are strong and she doesn't have severe jaundice. Those are the two biggie's they will be looking at when she gets here. I am also praying for a quick recovery for me so I can take care of my new baby girl. This is my first venture into the world of C-sections, so I'm not sure what to expect.
Thank you for everyone's prayers! It is truly a testament that prayer works through all of this - including the fact that I am perfectly content in my hospital room for these past two weeks. That is NOT typical for me to sit in one place this long and not go coo-coo. Hopefully in a few days I'll post pic's of our Charlotte Anne! I can't wait to meet her, I already know she's a drama queen. :)
