First day of "School"

We have had a little shift in the house this week, Sarah Katherine has started "school" (aka - daycare). The lady that was keeping her previously did a wonderful job and there are no issues there, just when we started it was part time and then we got into our current - very NOT part time schedule and the hours were just too much. All is well with the world though because the daycare that we wanted (that typically has a year long waiting list) had one spot just her age! God is GREAT!!!

I was worried about her first day and how she would take the "transition" (it seems silly to worry about that with an 8 month old, but I'm just that kooky!). Well, she didn't even look back to say bye. Her teacher set her in the floor to play with a little boy and she was in heaven. I got her sheet at the end of the day that summarizes everything, and she ate lots of "real" food, played a ton, and only slept for 40 minutes (this is a girl that will usually sleep like 3 HOURS during the day!). So, needless to say she was super excited to check out everyone and everything in her new class.

Another funny thing, when I dropped her off this morning I was asking about how she did yesterday and all and the teacher said "Man, the girl can eat!". Oh yes, our girl is LOVING some real food. She may have been in the 25% weight percentage at her previous doctor visits, but I think since finding the joy of grown up food she is going to be moving on up a bit. :) She's still gorgeous though!!!!

Here is a close up of her playing with her new buddies and a wider shot of her new classroom - looks super fun!!! (Hint - SK is the bald baby in the Bumbo.)

The Wide World of "Real" Food

The picture above is of Sarah Katherine having her very first bite of ice cream (well frozen yogurt). It looks like she is just thinking super hard about what is this wonderful thing I have just eaten, and how can I get some more?! Well, sure enough she loved it and every time I went to take a bite she got huffy and wanted one of her own.

Needless to say, we have been experimenting with grown up food. She is loving every bit of it. I have yet to find something she doesn't like. So far she's eaten bananas, peas, carrots, tortillas, and the frozen yogurt. She now tries to chew her baby food and ends up squishing it out all over the place. Once she started that I got the hint that we needed to move up to level 3 foods that have little fun chunks in it. Well, my sis in law gave us one and Sarah Katherine litterally danced the whole time through her dinner! Thanks so much to Nicole for making SK's night! :)

SK's First Slumber Party

A good friend of mine had asked me a while ago when Sarah Katherine could have a sleepover with her daughter, and I told her not to ask if she wasn't serious!! So, the night of my birthday Sarah Katherine went to a party of her own. It looks like they had an amazing time, check it out on my friend's site (http://www.dananddanica.blogspot.com/). I can't wait to see what all these girls get into over the years!

Well, I met up with the gals to get Sarah Katherine and on the way home SK crashed! See the picture below to see what happens to the girl when she plays so hard. :)

Thanks so much to Danica and Daniley for taking good care of my gal! She had a blast!!!

My 29th B'day

This past week I celebrated my last birthday of my 20's. I really don't feel any different from about 10 years ago, but apparently I am getting older. :) Luckily there was no panic attacks or freak outs, and really I had a great day. The hotel David works at had a big party that night, so we got all decked out and I pretented the whole bash was for me! We snuck out "early" from the party to have a late dinner at a nice restaurant downtown and just had a really nice night. I even straightened my hair for the occassion!!! Where was Sarah Katherine through all of this excitement - that's a whole other post!!

Sarah Katherine did make my day by making me a sign and emailing it to me during the day! I was in a class at work all day, so it was WONDERFUL to see this on my blackberry during a talk on structural concrete. :) She also made me some beautiful flowers where her hand print was the flower part - so crafty! (THANKS SO MUCH DEV!)

8 months and counting

Well, as you can see our little miss is getting bigger by the minute. This is her picture of her first dinner in her very own high chair - can you tell she thinks she's something?! Even though she is a little puny for her age, she LOVES to eat. All baby foods get scarfed quickly. She will even throw a fit if she's super hungry and it's not coming fast enough. A new find for Sarah Katherine is the world of Gerber Graduate puffs - she can chow down on some puffs! We are starting to "sneak" real food to her in little bits too. We have yet to find anything she doesn't like, so let's hope that keeps up and she'll eat all her vege's!

In related news, she is still struggling on getting her top 4 teeth in. They are coming through all at one time and she can be pretty pitiful. :( Maybe in the next few weeks that whole process will be done and she'll back to her precious self.

Well, crawling still alludes my little one. You can tell she's figured out that she has potential to move and just can't quite figure it out. She flails like she's trying to swim and just gets so frustrated that she hasn't moved afer such effort. I'm not sure how to "teach" her to crawl. I'm guessing as she sees other little ones moving around it will sink in. For now we are enjoying knowing where our kiddo is when we leave her to play - at least the vacinity, she is quite good at rolling to get to where she wants.
